Why I bought my kids domain names for Christmas

·

1–2 minutes

Looking for a last minute stocking stuffer for your kids?

Why not give them something that’ll last longer than candy.

I just bought my 3 their own domain name.

Here’s why:

  • Domains are becoming an important part of digital identity. I see this as an investment.
  • They can learn digital skills without even realizing it. We can talk about data ownership and digital footprints.
  • Better than another toy that the dog will chew on by New Year’s Day.

What Could They Do With It?

Honestly, whatever they want.

It’s their space. No rules, no algorithms — just them, building whatever they dream up:

  • A digital art gallery for all those sketches they leave lying around, or photos they take.
  • A blog about their games, travels, or whatever they want.
  • Could become their portfolio or launch pad for a career some day.

Point is, they can make it their own.

I grabbed their domains through WordPress.com/domains in about 2 minutes. Just their names with .com at the end. Simple.
